Art Galleries & Exhibitions

There are many permanent art exhibitions at the numerous galleries and museums across the island. There are also frequent temporary exhibitions at galleries and hotels (see local press for current guides). A diverse mixture of work can be found, created by both local and International Artists. For a taste of Cyprus' artistic history visit 'The Archaeological Museum', where Cypriot antiquities and art treasures from the Neolithic Age to the early Byzantine period are on display.

Shopping

Shopping hours in Cyprus change in line with the seasons. From June to October shops are typically open from 8am - 7.30pm (with a break from 1pm - 4pm) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. During the cooler months, closing time is brought forward to 6pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday and Saturday shops are generally open from 8am-2pm all year round, and on Sundays most shops outside of tourist areas are closed.

TV Stations & Satellite TV

There are 7 national channels, 2 of which are state-owned (CYBC1 & CYBC2) offering a balance of Greek and English language programmes. There are some regional channels available in different areas. Pafos has two regional channels, Pafos TV and Omega, offering coverage of local news and events, chat shows, and films in Greek and english. Lumiere TV (LTV) is a national terrestrial pay channel.

Cinema & Theatre

Pafos Pafos has two cinemas, each with two screens. Almost all films are shown with their original English soundtrack. For further information on what's showing now:

Theatre

Music & Radio

There are frequent live music performances throughout Cyprus. The Cyprus Chamber Orchestra regularly performs in major towns and also gives concerts on various occasions. 'Musical Sundays' are organised by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation in Pafos, Limassol, Larnaka, Agia Napa and Paralimni, and the 'Day of Music' is celebrated on the 21st of June in all towns. Additionally, there are over 120 local radio stations in Cyprus, providing listeners with a large variety of music, news and more. Many international radio stations can also be also received here including BBC World Service (MHz 17.64, 15.57, 9.410, 6.195 or 1323AM). BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) also broadcasts in english on 99.6FM (east), 92.1FM (West) and 89.7FM (Lefkosia).

Spas

Cyprus is one of the leading spa destinations in the Mediterranean. Both Pafos and Limassol offer world-class spa facilities at numerous resort hotels, where in many instances annual health club memberships are available.

Festivals

In Cyprus, barely a week passes by without a festivity of some kind! Easter is the most important event in the Greek Orthodox religious calendar, and is widely celebrated across the island; with lively parades surging through the streets. Vibrant flower festivals dating back to ancient Greek times shower towns and villages with colour in the springtime. There are also numerous 'name days' where homage to a saint is paid, and of course aptly celebrated. Carnival festivities take place in all towns in March, with fantastic parades, music, and dancing enlivening the island.
